Venus Raj- A Major,Major!

After 11 long years, Philippines made it again to the final five of the most prestigious beauty event- Miss Universe 2010. Recently held at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada,US of A. As reported, Venus was one of the pageant's favorite and as proof she was chosen as one of the first six delegates to promote Miss Universe 2010. This 22 year-old lass from Bicol used to be the laughing stock when she was younger because of her dark "morena" skin but look where the dark "morena" skin is? Now, one of country's pride when she brought home the 4th runner-up spot- a good news right after the Manila hostage scene. She is not just one of the Filipina who represented the country and became one of the top winners, she is an instant "pop culture" persona when she answered the final question given by Hollywood actor/judge William Baldwin- "What was the biggest mistake you made in your life and what did you do to make it right?" She answered straight from her heart that she didn't do any "major,major" mistake..." That created a major buzz not only to the beauty contest enthusiasts in the country but all throughout the world making her one of the news in popular US morning show Good Morning America. Now, almost everyone is using "major,major" and becoming a practical joke that people from all walks of life has something to say.

But come to think of it, here in Manila, we criticized when she used "major, major" on her answer, we didn't focus on the context of what she said. One evening while browsing on youtube Re: Miss Universe 2010 related videos,I found one and on the same show (Good Morning America) her photo as inset and a text "Miss Perfect"- that's alarming because the message was Venus is perfect. The question threw to Venus is very subjective, there's no right or wrong because in the first place that was a personal question and who would love to say on worldwide TV the biggest mistake you made. Same question was also asked to former US President George Bush and current President Barack Obama and the former replied:"You should ask me that question in paper so I could prepare..."

4th runner-up Venus Raj should have answered a better one as many of our "kababayans" said. Even is she answered differently it doesn't give any guarantee that she'll be the third Filipina to win Miss Universe. As they say it's not an easy feat and 4th runner-up is better than being one of the "thank you" girls.

Hello dear readers/followers/blogger (if there is any), was not able to blog for almost two months, been busy with family matters and work-related things. Last June of this year our whole family (from my mother's side)experienced an emotional turmoil when my uncle Ramon V.Diangson (my mom's first cousin), 64 passed away after battling diabetes and cirrhosis and Lola Yanang Villareal (my mom's auntie),84 passed away after living a wonderful life. Our whole family we'll surely missed them and reunions,Christmas and New Year's celebrations will never be the same again.You will always be part of my prayers and I know that the two of you are watching us over from the heaven. Sorry I'm unable to post photos during the wake and burial will post on my next blog.

Here comes July and I consider this was the busiest month of the year so far, my boss closed a project from ABS-CBN Publishing, it's the very first Star Studio Celebrity Style Awards (a fierce and fashion-forward award giving body). My boss, Ace and I did the research (and coordination from different publications) of different photos of the stars from celebrity and fashion magazines and works of fashion photographers,make up and hairstylists and fashion stylists.It was so much fun because while scanning the photos, you get to become a critique because our team will decide which photos will be judged by the style jurors. One hot Wednesday summer night, my friends and I decided to had dinner and catch up all things that make us busy for the past few months and so. I was with Adrian,Domingo,Christian and Hope-they are my closest high school friends of course I still have to mention Rowie and Rondell but apparently they could'nt make it that night because Rowie is based now in Cebu having a flourishing career and taking care of her family and Rondell is still based here in Manila but he has a family of his own to be with him that night.

We headed to Friday's Serendra why? We used Hope's 20%discount card for the resto, and it was a big help on the bill hehehe-=) Sumptuous and mouthwatering dishes were our orders; buffalo wings with celery and blue cheese- the dip is exceptional ,burger slider (4 mini burgers)- the patti burger is so tasteful,cajun shrimp chicken pasta (a bit spicy and tomato based pasta) which I truly loved and chicken prima pasta ( cream based). It was a satisfying meal and the prices were affordable-that's the good thing about dining out with pals-you can split the bill!

After dinner,we knew that we couldn't call it "a day" and that's where Tagaytay came in. Tagaytay is the place where you can go to unplanned gimmicks-- its just an hour or two drive from the metro.Thanks for the cozy weather of Tagaytay, we first stopped to a local arroz caldo house and they ordered sans me because it's carbs again and on our dinner I had too much pasta. Afterwards, we decided to had coffee but it's already past midnight, local coffee shops and Starbucks is closed and the only open in the near Rotonda area is Hap Chan. We traveled to Tagaytay to eat dimsum at Hap Chan and this Chinese resto-chain is scattered all over Manila (by the way, we were the only customers of Hap Chan that moment). That was it, dinner at Friday's and ate dimsum at Hap Chan Tagaytay. More than the tasteful dishes, it's the time spent with my most precious friends will definitely be treasured.

Remember when I wrote about last April here in my blog that I went a meaningful night with my very good old pals, here is one of them, Jayzel Ado whom I know for almost ten years now. It was her birthday when we took this photo, it was held in Reserve bar in Ortigas, it was a night full of booze. I normally drink vodka with sprite but that time I was drinking vodka with red bull energy drink, it tasted good though but hell I was so drunk and felt dried when I woke up.

She celebrated her birthday with Jairo,Choy,me and her other friends whom I only met that night! Now,I'd like to talk about the Reserve bar, it's nice but was so crowded-because it was a Friday night and not to mention, the place was too hot, for me it's not an excuse whether it's crowded or not, let's say for example Distillery bar in Jupiter street, their AC can sustain the most crowded place that can ever happen. One of the good things happened that night was I even got a free Cuervo tequila shot given by a man standing next to me in the bar, I dont know why he gave me a free shot and one girl gave me free rhum coke for no reason at all. Lucky me, the drinks didn't have any poisonous chemical. I and you can't resist freebies! Though it was too crowded, we still had so much fun enjoying each others company and of course enjoying the free drinks courtesy of course of the gorgeous Jayzel Ado. An Amazing Ruffa, Stylish Pam and Respectable "Inang"

Gorgeous gowns and dresses of some local celebrities, fresh faces, friendly press people, talented performers, fabulous make-up artists, award-winning director Olivia "Inang" Lamasan and stylist extra-ordinaire Pam Quinones (see photo below) were present in Star Awards for Movies which I attended last April 24,2010 at Irwin Lee Theatre in Ateneo De Manila University. I was there to cover the award ceremonies and it was so much fun for our id pass had an all access so our staff and crew can go inside their dressing rooms which all the interviews with the celebrities took place.

Proofs of her hardwork labor are Madrasta (made Sharon Cuneta a grandslam Best Actress), Sana Maulit Muli (a dramatic love story portrayed by Aga Muhlach and Lea Salonga), Got 2 Believe (made Claudine Barretto the box-office queen),Milan (Philippine's official entry to 2005 Cannes Film Festival) and the most recent one is the critically-acclaimed In My Life (movie that made Luis Manzano a "real" actor). Been busy for the past few weeks so I hardly updated my blog. Just in case you wanna know what I was up to here are someof them:

1. Busy with work,work and work-pre prod meetings, ocular inspection, coordination, shoots and coverages--it's all blessings and will wait for more of it.

2. Met best buddies Pat and Jai, we had GSM blue and chicken chops at Pat's place-we shared different gossips and heresays about the world of entertainment!

3.Met D3, Hope and Adrian,we went to Antipolo for a nice conversation and a nice view of Manila. Hope is having a marital problem, we pray that he and his wife will pass this through.

4. Covered Star Awards for Movies in Ateneo, it will be aired on pldtwatchpad.com next week. Had fun chit-chatting with celebs, photos to follow with my next entry. But for now, I'll say bye-bye first and will enjoy Sunday as its best! Yey-=)

After a few months of not catching up with good old friends, I had dinner with my most trusted friend Jairo and my darling friend Mac in Old Spaghetti House in Robinson's Galleria (by the way, three of us knew each other for eight years now)So sad though because I have no photos because the dinner was not planned so I left my digicam at home. First, I want to share the food-you agree with me we all love pigging out, Mac had carbonara wrapped in soft taco (I hope my description is correct), Jairo and I had pesto pasta with grilled chicken. The pesto was not that exceptional, I like the pesto sauce and the chicken of course but the noodles was not superb but more than the food what really made the dinner special was the convo we had. We talked about love, life, work, and about our other gay friends.

After dinner, we headed to Metrowalk and met Jayzel and Choy. Jayzel, my prettiest friend who is now so business-minded, Choy-Jayzel's partner for eight long years and counting. That night was ordinary yet so full of unforgettable talks and laughs, had beer sans me and Mac for some professional reasons, we even planned a beach vacation with other friends back in college-it sounds suuuppeerrrr exciting. We listed down all our friends who will be joining and are still here in Manila, expenses down to itineraries. I really pray that this summer outing will push through, I' m sure its going to be a lot of fun knowing that you will be with your old friends who knows you since then. It's a nice feeling that you still have few good friends you can share a hearty talk and laugh with and you dont have to see them everyday or every week, because you know from your heart that you will always be fellas no matter what. Till the next dinner and hopefully it will be followed by a few drinks at Reserved or in Distillery. Miss you all!!!

Up close and personal

The best thing about my current job is to travel for free and the icing on the cake is to be able to work with one of the world's most famous dance crew-Jabbowockeez. I dont even know his name but when the first time I saw him on the MusicFest 2010 presscon in Cebu I knew I had a crush on him. When I asked him about his ethnicity he gamely answered that he is half Filipino and Korean. He even mentioned that his mother is from the province of Siquijor-now that is really up close and personal.

I don't have any plans of taking a pic with him because the security was so tight, lucky me 'cause I had backstage access (I have to give credit to Migs of Channel V Philippines for being so patient with my "kakulitan"). So how did I come up with a pic of him, here's a short story: I was inside the backstage specifically in the artists area because I was looking for Rhian Ramos's blouse that she left in one of the comfort rooms. I was not able to find it so I had to leave and few steps before the exit door, this cutie was sitting and relaxing with their R.M. (Road Manager). I already passed by them but with me naturally a bit flirty (in a graceful way), I cant help it, gave my digicam to his RM and politely asked if she can take a photo of me with this exceptional lad. Luckier me, the RM gave in and here it is posted in my blog.

Feb 1,2010-Makati- It's my 25th birthday with few good and closest friends in tow. My actual birthday is Feb 02, I had a pre-birthday party because I can't celebrate it on the day itself 'cause I had to catch a 9:30AM flight the following day (Feb 03)going to Cebu to cover MusicFest 2010 featuring Boyce Ave. Jabbowockeez and American Idol champ Kris Allen. That night was one of the happiest aside from being with my darling friends, I love the place where I celebrated it-it's no less than The Distillery in Jupiter, Makati. I suuuuuuuuuper heart the place because its so relaxing even though it was a night of alcohol and loud music! The staff here are so warm and they will take care of your alcoholic needs-=). We had two one-liter JC tequila, an Absolut vodka raspberry (which I super adore the taste) and Absolut vodka pear--- with these drinks,who would not get drunk?! This 2010 is my silver year and by getting a year older I should get a lot wiser, wiser in all aspects of life but hey, I am a work in progress. This year I just started a career I truly love and suits my personality and with this I know that lots of wonderful things is yet to come!

It's me and one of my close friends Gian, this photo was taken from our dear friend's (Vanessa, I'll post more of her bday photos in the coming days, I have to steal from FB) birthday party on Nov. 27, she celebrated at The Distillery in Jupiter Street, Makati. That night was so full of booze and I got buzzed. Anyway, that night was so intimate because it's only her well loved and most trusted friends she invited on her celebration, more than being happy and lucky I am so blessed to have Vanessa as a very good friend. The Distillery is such a happy place, it's small though but everytime I'm there I never felt that place is so crowded because it is always jampacked with fabulous and well-dressed peeps. Who wouldn't love seeing gorgeous human beings they're like eye-candy (like me,harharhar),but aren't we all gorgeous in our way, just be confident and give that perfect smile (see left photo).

Blog or blogging is not something new these days, but only these past few months (mid-January 2010) that crossed my mind to do my own blog. It all started while I was searching a designer profile-an assignment from my current job. Going back on how I started reading and loving blogs, I happened to click the blogsite of a magazine editor whom I am an avid collector/reader of her magazine. Then, I read her blog almost everyday, its oh-so free spirited kind of blog, not so fussy and not so serious, enough to keep you smile and enough to warm your heart with her words of compassion and encouragement. Basically her blog (www.topazhorizon.com) is anything and everything under the sun. And that's one reason why I created this blog, to talk anything and people who will take time to visit my blog will just read funny, interesting and at times mellow-dramatic stories.

I hope that this personal blog or should I say on-line diary will serve as an inspiration to someone who can read it and that there will be a personal connection to be built between me and the reader. To my future readers, expect that everytime you're on my blog, I will assure you that I will write from the heart and you will see different photos that would tickle your fancy. Have a good read!-=)
